Bazant

Bazant Unique Adornments... Lara Bazant has been collecting rare materials and transforming them into wearable art for more than fifteen years. Bazant Unique Adornments provides ethical and eco-friendly jewelry alternatives, and inspires individualism through creativity and culture. Lara travels across the globe to source fair trade, recyclable and sustainable materials, then returns to her Toronto studio where she designs and fabricates sterling silver creations that incorporate her many finds. With the intuitive combination of uncommon materials, each necklace, earring, bracelet and ring comes alive with its own unique story and theme. The pieces allow the wearer to experience a bit of history while expressing individual style.

Lara's one-of-a-kind and limited edition designs were born out of her experiences as a teenager living in Pakistan. Brought there during the Gulf War by her father who was involved with the United Nations, Bazant began going to the traditional Friday markets and fell in love with what she saw. Her fascinations with third world craftsmanship lead to the process of collecting materials directly from the source. As a result, each piece promotes a fair wage for artisans worldwide.

Biju

Picture
I have been working with crystals and semiprecious stones for over 10 years now. My personal experience showed me that Nature is never wrong, its beauty shows the one and only perfection of this world.

The stones that I chose to work with are priceless, they are the core-soul of the planet we live on, and they are simply nourishing our life energy.

If our minds and hearts are open we might as well not only dream of, but experience the Magic of our own beauty!

There's nothing magic in the power of stones; it's all Nature's way of keeping in tough with us!

Beauty is naturally yours!

Fuzzycraft Knitwear

Picture
Toronto native Caroline Kaiser learned how to knit at age seven. After a long hiatus from the craft, she took up her knitting needles again in 2002 and has been making Fuzzycraft Knitwear tote bags, purses and pouches ever since.

Each Fuzzycraft item is hand-knit and hand-sewn to Caroline's exacting standards in her smoke-free studio. Although she uses a variety of materials, she prefers natural fibres such as wool, cotton and silk. She is currently having a love affair with Donegal tweed and handmade exotic wood buttons. Influenced by the 14 years she spent as an antiques appraiser, she alludes to vintage accessories in some of her work. The woods surrounding her studio also inform her style and choice of materials.

Unlike other knitted purses that stretch out of shape, Fuzzycraft purses are fully lined and all straps are reinforced, enhancing durability. Each piece is "signed" with a tiny rosette.

Garden Dub

Picture
Georgiana's work is heavily inspired by nature and her travels. She is a studio arts graduate and she enjoys keeping herself busy with anything creative, whether it's painting, photography, or sewing. Georgiana's clothing and accessories reflect her painting training as she likes to create unique items that are pieced together as one would create a painting. When she creates, she likes her work to reflect a feeling or represent a movement in nature, like a bird's flight or a flower's life.

Garden Dub is about  "daydreams in wildflower fields of a European childhood".

Heartspangle

Picture
Shirley Caroline Sequeira is an artist and arts educator in the Greater Toronto Area. Fascinated by the play between light and colour, she designs and creates intricate and unique pieces of jewelry using a combination of glass, lamp work, and hand painted beads with Swarovski and fire polished crystals, pewter and sterling silver findings.

During her travels through Europe and North America, Shirley is always on the lookout for unique and unusual beads to add to her creations. Delighted by the harmony of colours and the subtle beauty of the crystals, Shirley spends hours in her small beading studio creating one of a kind bracelets and necklaces.

Her fascination with the merging of colour and light sends her on many journeys to admire the stained glass windows of French Gothic Cathedrals and to explore the peaks of mountains in Switzerland where she takes in the changing effects of light on the landscape. It is in these environments that Shirley finds inspiration for her artwork.

An Honours Graduate of the Fine Arts Program at the University of Toronto, and OISE, Shirley presently teaches Visual Arts to Intermediate students in the Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board.

Honeybea Designhive

Picture
A colourful friend of the Green Movement, fashion designer, graphic illustrator and entrepreneur Rebecca Caulford is a passionate and active member of Canada's artisan community. With the birth of HONEYBEA DESIGNHIVE in 2004, a nicknamed Bea spread the word, work and love of a blooming, earth-friendly clothing company in New Zealand, the
UK and across Canada.

After receiving her Bachelor of Communications at The Ryerson School of Fashion in downtown Toronto, Bea knew that the common grind of the urbanfashion industry was not for her. With a wagon, a few ironing boards as tables and an overwhelming vision, HONEYBEA DESIGNHIVE hit the streets! Devoting herself uncontrollably to her work, Bea became a vibrant addition to markets, festivals, design collectives and boutiquesacross the globe. An unpaved path became easier to navigate and Bea implimented an annual Canadian Festival Tour into her company's position
in the Handmade Movement. She hit the Trans-Canada in her 73' VW, towing her wares in trailer decked out in daisies.

Happiest with her feet in the grass and head in the clouds, a very busy Bea can be found gathering a bounty of inspiration from the center of a tiny flower all the way up to the mosaic of a leafy treetop. Nature-inspired colours and motifs, in only the most innovatively recycled resources make up the designs, fibers and materials of a clothing and accessories collection that promotes a healthy planet and happy community!

Jennifer Glasgow Design

Picture
It is the sweet smell in the air that creates the colourful joy we wear.  The sun hits our shoulders and we raise our eyes to the sky.  Spring is upon us and the gorgeous prospects are pushing us forward.  Unwrapping our bodies from months of solemn Winter garb, we feel the intense need to become… Spring.  With love in the air and a spring in our step, Glasgow tempts you to take it further with her invigorating Spring collection.

Jennifer Glasgow has created a precisely joyful collection of separates and dresses that encompass the attitude she aspires to in the season of new beginnings.

Inspired by the 1960’s, the decade of women’s burgeoning freedom, Jennifer explores their optimism through youthful colour and refined shapes.  Bold hues and tones converge with feminine silhouettes.  Inspired by that era but not restricted to it, Glasgow offers a more casual combination of form and colour.  Soft draping, perfect pleating and curvaceous gathering are formidable friends through out this season.

Concentrating on the natural, Glasgow’s use of linen, organic cotton, bamboo and silk voile makes Spring 2010 integral to any woman’s wardrobe.  That intoxicating feeling of fresh cotton and the beautiful drape of bamboo are woven into sumptuously designed pieces.

Blossoming optimism, a sense of joy in the world and the new decade upon us, make this collection primordial.  Through nature friendly textiles and woman friendly designs, Glasgow serves us the blossoming excitement for the new era.

Leah Rainely

Picture
Leah Rainey grew up in Muskoka.

In 1996, she moved to England to study art at Loughborough College of Art. She then went on to study painting at Chelsea College of Art and Design in London. Leah spent the next 10 years living in the UK; painting and exhibiting in England and Scotland.  She has now returned to Canada permanently and is currently based in Toronto.

Through the use of images and collected descriptions from the everyday; magazines, newspapers, film, the internet, Rainey travels through a process of exploring the ground between how we associate and combine observation. Her work focuses on a fascination with observation and the gradual alteration of partially formed, information.
Linear marks carved through thick applications of paint call to mind the origin of drawing, while thin veils of colour create a tension between the abstract surface and physical imagery. What remains is precious and animated as the viewer sees what remains from Rainey’s progression and thoughtful observation.

Nancy's Bead Artistry

Picture
Nancy Downard is the creator of Nancy’s Bead Artistry. Her jewellery making stems from her love
of crystals and minerals, a love she discovered several years ago when she began learning  about each
one’s unique spiritual and healing properties.

“For me, crystals are spiritual and I consider the metaphysical properties of each one when I’m choosing
stones for my necklaces. And when I don’t use stones, I choose important colours because colours
have meaning and significance as well.”

She began creating necklaces for herself and sharing them with family and friends.

"I started making necklaces because I loved the idea of surrounding myself with the beauty and abundance of nature."

Her beautiful creations soon captured the attention of others.

Nancy is a registered nurse who spends her days helping people access beds in long-term care homes.
